Last week I was in a local Panera at lunchtime and bumped into a couple from our Adult Bible Fellowship Class. I took a moment to congratulate them on taking time out for a ‘lunch date’. As we talked a bit I learned that she loves Panera but he really would rather be somewhere else. He even made the comment, “I’m here because of her.” Wow! What a profound and important affirmation.
I need to ask myself regularly, what am I doing, just ‘because of her’. When have I laid my desires, choices, even my ambition aside to choose an option ‘because of Stacy’? And listen, guys we don’t get any points for doing this with a grudging or ‘you owe me for this’ sort of attitude. I think we all, including me, need to pause from time to time and consider how are we expressing love to our wives by doing things ‘because of her’.
Greater love has no man than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 Men, I have no closer friend than Stacy, am I laying down my life for her? Let’s ask this question of ourselves, our wives and even of God. He can and will reveal areas of our lives where we need to lay down selfishness in order to express our love. With that said, let me offer a recommendation…
