All three of our boys are playing basketball this season. Watching them compete is a great thrill. They make plenty of mistakes and I could spend my time at the games pointing them out. That’s what many parents do. But I have decided to make sure my sons hear me cheering for them.
Yes, they need to be coached and corrected. (Just like I do!) But I’m convinced they’ll tune out the coaching and correcting if that’s all theywe follow his example and cheer for our children?
hear. They’ll listen and respond to comments about their mistakes more readily if they know you saw the things they did right!
Next time you’re at a game, listen for the parents (dads especially) who are only coaching and correcting from the bleachers. Resolve to cheer for your kid as well as others. Make sure they hear you! If God the Father cheered for Jesus, shouldn’t we follow his example and cheer for our children?
