Men, earlier this month our family was privileged to spend a week on the Outer Banks. Our family of six was there along with one of Tim’s friends, both of my parents and Stacy’s parents even came down for the second half of the week.
Like many of you, I have a hard time disengaging from work. So I had my cell phone and my computer working trying to not get too far behind while ‘vacationing’. Does this sound familiar?
I took a call from a friend and encourager at a local church and in the course of our conversation I told him I was at the beach with my family. I mentioned who was there and he immediately began to ‘counsel’ me. “Why are you talking to me? You’re supposed to disconnect and decompress.” He worked me over pretty good but here’s the comment that stuck. “Everyone you love is there!”
And he was right! Sure, I love lots of people other than my family but most of the folks who really matter to me were there;…while I was back at work, mentally. Since then I’ve been trying to pay attention to the question… “Where are the people I really love?”
This is a great check point for all of us. When work is over and you’re at home, are you present with the ones you love and who love you back?
